Zelenskyy Reports “Good Results” in Sumy Border Region
(MENAFN) Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced “good results” from his nation’s military in the frontier zone of the Sumy region, where Ukrainian and Russian forces have been locked in heavy battles for the past several months.
In a nightly video statement posted on the US platform X late Sunday, Zelenskyy explained that he received a briefing during the past 24 hours from Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi.
He noted that Ukrainian units are steadily progressing toward Ukraine’s boundary with Russia in the country’s northeast.
“There are good results in the border area of the Sumy region … The Russians are also suffering significant losses in the Kharkiv region – in Kupyansk – and in the Donetsk region,” Zelenskyy declared.
The president highlighted that Ukrainian soldiers are continuing their maneuvers near Dobropillia, in the eastern Donetsk area, while also fending off Russian offensives.
“We are also acting according to the situation in the Zaporizhzhia region,” Zelenskyy added.
Last month, Kyiv asserted that Russian forces had begun an advance toward Dobropillia, located roughly 22 kilometers (13.6 miles) north of Pokrovsk, a crucial battlefield in the Donetsk region. However, local officials indicated that the conditions there had been “stabilized.”
Earlier in April, Moscow claimed it had expelled Ukrainian troops from Russia’s Kursk border zone.
That operation followed Kyiv’s cross-border incursion in August of the previous year, after which Russian President Vladimir Putin directed the establishment of a “security buffer zone” along the boundary separating the two nations.
