Massive Ukrainian Cyberattack Paralyzes Russia's Central Election Commission

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) According to Ukrinform, this was reported by a source in DIU.

The purpose of the cyberattack was to disrupt online voting in the Russian elections, which the occupying authorities are conducting, including in temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

A powerful DDoS attack targeted digital resources involved in holding the illegal elections:

·servers of the Central Election Commission and the remote electronic voting (REV) platform used during online voting in mayoral and gubernatorial elections in Russia;

  • trunk routers of Rostelecom;
  • servers of the Russian state digital services portal Gosuslugi.

As a result of the attack, for some time the operation of digital services used for online voting was paralyzed. Many Russians were unable to cast their votes in mayoral and gubernatorial elections in various regions of the Russian Federation.

“In the CEC building, the Internet went down – an attack is underway,” said Ella Pamfilova, head of Russia's Central Election Commission.

Problems with the remote voting services were also confirmed by Roskomnadzor. According to them,“due to failures in Rostelecom's network, traffic degradation occurred on the backbone network.”
