Ukraine Says It Hit Russian Oil Refinery with Overnight Strike

(MENAFN) The Ukrainian military confirmed a major overnight attack on the Kirishi oil refinery, located in the Leningrad region of northwestern Russia, early Sunday morning.

According to a report from the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the strike resulted in multiple explosions followed by a large fire that engulfed the facility, which is considered one of Russia's largest and most critical oil refineries.

The refinery, known for producing a wide range of petroleum products, including automotive gasoline, diesel fuel, and aviation fuel, plays a vital role in supplying fuel to the Russian military. The Ukrainian report specifically emphasized that the facility is directly involved in providing essential resources to support Russia's armed forces.

Although Russia has yet to confirm the scale of the damage or the impact on operations, the attack is a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict, targeting infrastructure critical to Russia's military capabilities.
