New Delhi: Delhi Police arrested Gaganpreet, the accused woman driver in the tragic BMW car crash case near Dhaula Kuan on Ring Road. The accident, which occurred on Sunday, left one person dead and another injured after a BMW collided with a motorcycle. According to police reports, the deceased worked in the Ministry of Finance and lived in Hari Nagar. He was riding the motorcycle with his wife when the BMW hit them. Eyewitnesses confirmed that a woman was driving the BMW. After the collision, the woman and her husband took a taxi and rushed the injured couple to a hospital.

What the hospital said on the BMW crash victim's condition

The Director at Nulife Hospital, GTB Nagar, Dr Shakuntala Kumar said a medico-legal case arrived around 2 PM om Sunday involving a car and motorcycle crash. A man (aged 50-57) was brought dead, while his injured wife was stable and later transferred to another hospital at her request. The BMW occupants, a woman and a man, received first aid; the woman was discharged stable, and the man referred for advanced care. The doctor said,“Around 2 PM yesterday, a medico-legal case related to a road accident involving a car and a motorcycle was brought to our hospital. First aid was offered, and the police were informed. A man aged between 50 and 57 years was brought in dead, and his wife, who sustained injuries but was vitally stable, was also brought in. As per the choice of this lady, who was brought along with this man, after first aid and necessary stabilisation, she was transferred to another hospital for further management on her request. Two additional patients, both occupants of the car were also received in our emergency department. Both were provided immediate medical aid. One female patient, after initial observation and treatment, has been discharged in a stable condition. The male patient, following advice from our critical care team, has been referred to a higher centre for advanced management... We express our deepest condolences to the bereaved family...”

Delhi Police on accident

According to the Delhi Police, a tragic collision took place when a BMW car hit a motorcycle near Metro pillar number 67 at Dhaula Kuan. The motorcycle was carrying a couple, and eyewitnesses said a lady was driving the BMW at the time of the accident. Following the collision, the motorcycle-borne couple struck a nearby bus on their left. After the crash, Gaganpreet and her husband took a taxi and rushed the injured couple to a hospital. Later, the hospital informed the police that one person had died while the other sustained serious injuries.

The deceased was employed by the Ministry of Finance and lived in Hari Nagar. His son, Navnoor Singh, shared his grief and raised concerns about the medical treatment. Navnoor said,“I received a message from my mother that she was going to Gurdwara Bangla Sahib, but she did not respond to my calls. I later learned from a family friend that both my parents were admitted to New Life Hospital, GTB Nagar. I feel the hospital was not suitable. My father could have been saved if he had been taken to a superspeciality hospital nearby.”

Police investigation and FIR filing

Delhi Police acted swiftly after receiving the hospital's report. Both the BMW and the motorcycle were seized, and the crime team inspected the accident site thoroughly. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team was also called in to analyze the scene and the vehicles involved.

“A BMW car was found overturned on the road, while the motorcycle lay near Metro pillar number 67, Dhaula Kuan. Eyewitnesses confirmed that a woman was driving the BMW, which hit the motorcycle. After the accident, the woman and her husband took a taxi to rush the injured couple to the hospital. A call later came from the hospital stating one patient had died and another was injured. Both vehicles were seized, and the crime team examined the spot,” Delhi Police said in an official statement.

An FIR was registered on Monday under FIR No. 240/25 u/s 281/125B/105/238 BNS. Section 238 of the BNS Act relates to the disappearance of evidence or providing false information to protect an offender. Authorities are investigating whether the accused tried to hide evidence.

Condition of the accused and victims

Both Gaganpreet and her husband sustained injuries in the accident. They were admitted to the hospital. The police arrested Gaganpreet from the hospital on Monday afternoon. It is known that both of them are in the business of manufacturing horse leather saddles, seats, covers, and belts.

On the other hand, the victim's wife, who was riding the motorcycle, is also undergoing treatment. Her condition is being closely watched by doctors.

Family calls out handling of the situation

Navnoor Singh, the son of the deceased, expressed his strong concern about the way the situation was handled. He pointed out that the hospital was located far from the accident site and lacked proper facilities. He added,“People at the hospital said that instant death after an accident is very rare. There are several superspeciality hospitals like AIIMS and others near Dhaula Kuan. My father might have been saved if treated there.”

Eyewitnesses at the scene recalled the shocking sight of the BMW overturned on the road and the motorcycle lying near the Metro pillar. The woman driver did not report the accident to the police immediately but instead took the injured in a taxi to the hospital.

The investigation is still ongoing. Delhi Police are carefully examining all angles of the case, including how and why the accident happened, whether there was any negligence involved, and if the accused attempted to hide evidence. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team is analyzing the vehicles and the accident site to better understand the sequence of events.

“The legal process is underway. Further details about the accident and the accused's role will be shared as soon as we complete the investigation,” said a senior Delhi Police officer.

The accident has triggered public anger and raised questions about road safety and accountability. Many are demanding stricter action against reckless driving and more transparent investigations in such cases. Experts also warn that accidents involving high-end vehicles like BMWs are becoming more common on Delhi's roads, making strict enforcement of traffic laws a pressing need.
