Poland Urges Google to Take Down Israeli Ads Dismissing Gaza Famine

(MENAFN) Poland has urged Google to take down Israeli-sponsored ads on YouTube that reject claims of famine in the Gaza Strip, media reported late Sunday.

The request was made by NASK, a Polish institution focused on monitoring online disinformation, which filed a formal complaint to Google on behalf of the Foreign Ministry. The report detailed the existence of manipulated or false content in the videos, claiming that the ads violated YouTube's community guidelines and should be removed.

NASK experts highlighted the presence of manipulated or misleading content in Google ads and YouTube videos, arguing that, according to the platform’s community guidelines, such material should be removed.

According to media, Israel’s Foreign Ministry and its embassy in Warsaw have been actively distributing content online, including eight videos posted on the embassy’s official YouTube channel, disputing reports of a famine in Gaza.

However, Google rejected the report, asserting that the ads in question were in line with its policies and values, as quoted by the Foreign Ministry.

Since March 2, Israel has shut down all border crossings to Gaza, a move that has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis and left 2.4 million people facing severe food shortages.

The Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) has officially confirmed a famine in northern Gaza and warned that the crisis will spread to Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis in southern Gaza by the end of September.

Since the declaration of famine, at least 144 people, including 30 children, have died from starvation, the Polish ministry reported.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military resumed its offensive in Gaza on March 18, with airstrikes and ground attacks that have killed 12,321 people and injured 52,569, shattering a ceasefire agreement made in January.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants last November for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity related to the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

In addition, Israel faces charges of genocide at the International Court of Justice over its actions in the region.
