Arab-Islamic Summit: Israeli Strikes Undermine Normalisation Of Ties
KABUL (Pajhwok): A draft resolution from the Arab–Islamic summit has described Israel's attack on Qatar and other“hostile acts” as a threat to coexistence and ongoing efforts to normalise relations in the region, Reuters reports.
Last Tuesday, Israel targeted a Hamas negotiating delegation in Doha, the Qatari capital.
The Qatari government strongly condemned the strike, calling it a blatant violation of the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The assault was widely denounced across the globe as an act likely to further inflame regional tensions. The United Nations Security Council also condemned the incident.
The summit, convened in Doha, is viewed as a demonstration of solidarity with Qatar following the Israeli attack targeting Hamas leaders based in the Gulf state.
An excerpt of the draft resolution, seen by Reuters, stated:“The brutal Israeli attack on Qatar and the continuation of Israel's hostile acts, including genocide, ethnic cleansing, starvation, siege, colonial activities and expansionist policies, threaten the prospects for peace and coexistence in the region.”
It warned that such actions jeopardise“everything achieved on the path of normalising ties with Israel, including existing agreements and those under discussion.”
The draft was prepared by Arab and Islamic foreign ministers ahead of the summit.
Meanwhile, Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani stated on Sunday that Israel's actions would not deter Doha's mediation efforts in coordination with Egypt and the United States.
Qatar, a key mediator in the Gaza conflict, accused Israel of sabotaging peace efforts and accused Prime Minister Netanyahu of engaging in“state terrorism.”
A member of Qatar's internal security forces was among those killed in the stricke.
US President Donald Trump also expressed dissatisfaction with Israel's move, stating that the attack had not advanced the objectives of either Israel or the United States. He described Qatar as a close ally, making substantial efforts to mediate peace.
Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majid bin Mohammed Al-Ansari confirmed that Doha would host the“extraordinary Arab–Islamic summit” today (Monday) to discuss the Israeli attack and recent regional developments.
