Emergency Summit In Doha To Address Israeli Attacks On Arab Nations
Majed Al-Ansari, spokesperson for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the meeting is drafting a final statement to be presented at the summit. He emphasized that the timing of the gathering reflects broad Arab and Islamic solidarity with Qatar in the face of what he described as“the cowardly Israeli aggression” targeting residential compounds housing Hamas leaders.
Al-Ansari added that the meeting sends a clear message rejecting what he called“state terrorism” practiced by Israel.
Jamal Rushdy, spokesperson for the Arab League Secretary-General, said the summit demonstrates full solidarity with Qatar. He noted that holding it in Doha underscores Arab and Islamic rejection of what he termed“unprecedented aggression.”
Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani described the Israeli attack on Doha as“state terrorism,” calling it a“reckless and treacherous assault” carried out while Qatar was hosting negotiations on Gaza. He warned that the strike was not merely a targeted attack, but a broader attempt to undermine the principle of mediation itself, which could derail ongoing diplomatic efforts.
He further stated that Israel's continued escalation is enabled by the international community's failure to hold it accountable, and called for an end to“double standards.” He added,“The region will not enjoy security and peace without the Palestinian people gaining their legitimate rights.”
Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit condemned the Israeli attack as a combination of“cowardice, treachery, and recklessness,” adding that“international silence and inaction encourage the occupation to commit further crimes.” Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hissein Brahim Taha, also expressed solidarity with Qatar and called for“decisive measures against Israel.”
Meanwhile, Gaza continues to suffer amid the ongoing war that began on October 7, 2023. The health ministry in the enclave reported 68 fatalities and 346 injuries in the past 24 hours, raising the death toll to 64,871 and the number of wounded to over 164,000. The ministry also reported that among those killed are 2,494 identified as primary family breadwinners, with more than 18,135 injured.
The UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) warned that Gaza City has been“completely destroyed and is turning into a wasteland,” stating that children are starving, families are being forcibly displaced, and residents are living in constant fear.
Observers say the emergency Arab-Islamic summit in Doha will test whether participating states can move beyond political statements to adopt concrete measures in response to Israel's growing escalation-now extending to countries engaged in mediation efforts.
