Amman, Sept 14 (Petra) – The Director General of the Royal Medical Services (RMS), Brig. Gen. Dr. Sahel Hammouri, said Sunday that the services, guided by the Hashemite leadership and the General Command of the Jordan Armed Forces–Arab Army, remain committed to providing medical support to the armed forces and treating military personnel, security service members and their families, in addition to delivering high-quality, safe and affordable healthcare to all beneficiaries.
Speaking in a lecture titled "Royal Medical Services Strategies in Providing Healthcare in Peace and War" at the Royal Jordanian Command and Staff College for participants in the 66th Command and Staff Course, Joint 30, including Arab and foreign officers, Hammouri emphasized the RMS' mission to deliver equitable care through qualified staff, advanced technologies and continuous improvement, while optimizing available resources to help raise the standard of healthcare in Jordan.
He noted that Royal Medical Services provides healthcare to nearly 38 percent of the Kingdom's population, serving as a cornerstone of both the armed forces and Jordan's wider healthcare system. Their role extends beyond treatment to preventive and field medical support for personnel, retirees and their families under all circumstances.
Hammouri underscored the RMS' vital role in disaster preparedness and response, highlighting that they are part of the national disaster plan and the accredited body for annual disaster-readiness certification at civilian airports.
He also pointed to the uniqueness of the Royal Medical Services in offering air ambulance services using Royal Jordanian Air Force helicopters equipped with trained medical teams and advanced medical equipment. They also handle complex medical cases referred from other health sectors and provide hospital-based care in areas lacking Ministry of Health facilities.
The lecture concluded with an open discussion, during which Hammouri addressed questions from participants.
