Türkiye, Italy Reinforce Strategic Partnership

(MENAFN) Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan convened with Italy's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani in Rome on Thursday.

The discussions centered on enhancing relations between Türkiye and Italy, both of which are NATO members and long-time strategic collaborators, Fidan stated during a press briefing held after their meeting.

Fidan highlighted that the acquisition of Piaggio Aerospace by Turkish UAV producer Baykar, along with its collaboration with Leonardo, represents a noteworthy example for regional cooperation.

He also stressed the critical need for stability in Libya, asserting that the nation’s "unity, territorial integrity, sovereignty, stability, and security must be maintained indefinitely." Fidan noted that Türkiye and Italy would sustain their coordinated efforts toward this objective.

Turning to the issue of Israel, Fidan stated that the European Union and the United Nations must adopt firmer actions to restrain Israel. He pointed out that Qatar, a nation recognized for its "peaceful foreign policy and effective mediation efforts," is now also being threatened by Israel's "expansionist agenda."

He added that Israel’s widening ambitions, now affecting Qatar, should act as an alert for those who have consistently "turned a blind eye to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu."

Tajani, meanwhile, expressed strong trust in Türkiye’s contribution to fostering regional peace and stability, saying the two nations can make substantial progress together.
