UAE Calls in Israeli Diplomat Over Qatar Airstrike

(MENAFN) The United Arab Emirates on Friday called in Israel’s deputy ambassador, David Ahad Horsandi, to formally express its outrage over this week's "cowardly and reckless" Israeli strike in Qatar, according to a state news agency.

Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashimy, the UAE’s Minister of State for International Cooperation, delivered Abu Dhabi’s "strong condemnation and denunciation" of both the Israeli attack and remarks made by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Al Hashimy emphasized that Qatar’s security is essential to the entire Gulf Cooperation Council’s stability.

Earlier in the week, an Israeli broadcaster, reported that Israel's ambassador to the UAE had also been summoned for a rebuke in the wake of the airstrike on Hamas officials in Qatar.

On Tuesday, Israeli fighter jets targeted Hamas leadership in Doha, resulting in the deaths of five Hamas members and a Qatari security officer.

The following day, Netanyahu addressed Doha directly, saying: “You either expel them (Hamas) or you bring them to justice. Because if you don’t, we will.” Netanyahu likened Israel’s action in Qatar to the U.S. pursuit of Al-Qaeda after the 9/11 attacks, but Qatar swiftly rejected the comparison, calling it a "new, miserable justification for Israel’s treacherous practices" and a reckless breach of its sovereignty.

Qatar, along with the U.S. and Egypt, has been a key player in mediating efforts to bring an end to Israel’s ongoing war with Gaza, which has resulted in over 64,700 Palestinian deaths since October 2023.
