IDF destroys residential tower in Gaza to amid occupation plan

(MENAFN) Reports indicate that the Israeli military struck and demolished the Al-Kawthar residential tower in western Gaza City on Sunday, continuing its campaign targeting high-rise structures as part of efforts to occupy the city.

Witnesses said fighter jets hit the tower shortly after residents and nearby tent dwellers were ordered to evacuate immediately. Across Gaza City, the army has been issuing similar evacuation warnings while conducting strikes, directing civilians to move south toward a so-called “safe humanitarian zone” in Al-Mawasi, Khan Younis—a location repeatedly hit more than 100 times, resulting in hundreds of civilian casualties.

Gaza’s Government Media Office reports that since August 11, Israeli attacks have destroyed approximately 1,600 towers and residential buildings in Gaza City, along with 13,000 tents, displacing over 100,000 people. Most remaining residents are now concentrated in the city’s western neighborhoods, which have experienced intense and sustained bombing since Friday.

The genocide in Gaza, ongoing since October 2023, has killed more than 64,800 Palestinians and left the enclave facing widespread famine. Israel is currently confronting a genocide case at the International Court of Justice related to its military operations in the territory.
