NATO Launches “Eastern Sentry” Drill

(MENAFN) NATO has declared a fresh military exercise designed to discourage Russian aggression, following accusations from Poland that Moscow breached its airspace with drones.

The Kremlin rejected these claims as baseless while asserting that the alliance is engaging in fearmongering.

NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte stated that the operation, named the “Eastern Sentry,” seeks to strengthen the alliance’s defensive posture along its eastern frontier.

Officials noted that the maneuvers are scheduled to start in the coming days and will continue for an unspecified duration.

The “Eastern Sentry” exercise is framed as a reaction to “ongoing airspace violations, including numerous Russian drones that violated Poland’s airspace on September 10,” according to a NATO statement.

Several member states are contributing forces to the drill: Denmark will deploy two F-16 fighter jets and an anti-air warfare frigate, France will provide three Rafale jets, and Germany will send four Eurofighters.

The United Kingdom has also indicated its willingness to participate.

Polish authorities have reported at least 19 separate breaches of their airspace, claiming that air defense systems shot down up to four drones.

Local officials also noted minor damage on the ground but confirmed there were no casualties.
