Petra To Host Inmate Handicrafts Exhibition Under Public Security Initiative
(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency)
Petra, Sept. 14 (Petra) -- Petra is set to become the stage for a unique social initiative in October, with an exhibition highlighting handicrafts made by inmates as part of efforts to link rehabilitation with tourism and economic empowerment.
The exhibition, to be held in the Nabataean Cultural Village, will feature products created under the "Made with Determination" program, a national initiative launched by Jordan's Public Security Directorate to support inmates' reintegration into society.
Commissioner of Petra Reserve and Tourism Affairs, Yazan Mahadin, visited the program's headquarters and praised the creativity and humanitarian dimension of the project, which markets inmates' handicrafts through a permanent e-commerce platform described as the first of its kind globally.
The exhibition was proposed by Brig. Gen. Dr. Firas Al-Duwairi, Commander of the Southern Region Security Directorate, as part of efforts to integrate social rehabilitation initiatives into Jordan's broader tourism offering.
The "Made with Determination" initiative provides inmates with an income to support their families and prepares them for positive reintegration after release. It reflects the Public Security Directorate's vision of transforming correctional centers from places of detention into platforms for production, rehabilitation, and empowerment.
Officials noted that the project also promotes values of tolerance and inclusion, giving inmates a genuine opportunity to rebuild their lives with dignity.
