Amman, Sept. 14 (Petra) -- Germany has extended a new financing grant worth €30.9 million to support Jordan's education sector, aimed at improving access to quality schooling for vulnerable children, including thousands of Syrian refugees.
The agreement was signed at the Ministry of Education in coordination with the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation. Funds will be provided through the German Development Bank (KfW). Minister of Education Azmi Mahafzah signed the grant agreement in the presence of Sawsan Al-Arouri, Deputy Director of KfW in Jordan.
Mahafzah expressed appreciation for Germany's continued support, noting that the grant strengthens Jordan's ability to meet its commitments in providing equitable, high-quality education for all children. He stressed that Syrian and other non-Jordanian students receive the same level of education in Jordanian schools as their Jordanian peers.
The grant will reinforce the capacity of public schools, support teachers and administrative staff serving disadvantaged communities, and allow thousands of Syrian students to enroll in public schools operating on a double-shift basis.
The program is also expected to generate employment opportunities within the education sector, thereby strengthening the resilience and sustainability of Jordan's formal education system.
