China Approves New Atomic Energy Legislation


(MENAFN) On Friday, China's lawmakers approved a landmark law aimed at regulating the research, development, and peaceful use of atomic energy. The law was passed during a session of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress.

Spanning 62 articles across eight chapters, the new atomic energy law sets a clear framework for advancing China's nuclear energy ambitions while prioritizing safety and international collaboration. It stresses the peaceful application of atomic energy, advocating for global exchanges and partnerships to share the benefits of nuclear advancements.

The law underscores China's dedication to upholding its international obligations and agreements, while firmly opposing nuclear proliferation. It strictly bans any activities related to the spread of nuclear weapons and highlights the importance of safeguarding against nuclear terrorism. Additionally, the legislation advocates for the creation of an equitable, collaborative global nuclear security framework.

Additionally, the law mandates the creation of a robust nuclear security system to enhance oversight of atomic energy research and operational safety.

The law will come into effect on January 15, 2026.
