Preparing For Winter: EU Announces Additional EUR 40 Million In Humanitarian Aid To Ukraine


(MENAFN- UkrinForm) That is according to the European Commission's press service , as reported by Ukrinform.

EU humanitarian aid partners will deliver shelter materials, repair damaged homes and centres for displaced people, improve access to water, sanitation, and heating. The funding will include cash assistance, solid fuels, heating appliances and insulation, as well as emergency heating points. Particular attention will be given to vulnerable groups, such as older people, children, persons with disabilities, and displaced families living in collective sites.

The Commission noted that the EU has already delivered over 156,000 tonnes of humanitarian aid through its Civil Protection Mechanism. In response to Russia's widespread destruction of Ukraine's energy infrastructure, the aid includes 9,342 power generators, 6,917 transformers, and millions of energy-efficient LED bulbs.

In parallel, the EU and its Member States have mobilized more than EUR 4.2 billion in humanitarian support for Ukraine and neighboring countries. The EU has also coordinated the medical evacuation of over 4,500 patients from Ukraine to hospitals in 22 European countries.

As previously reported by Ukrinform, newly appointed UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper arrived in Kyiv on Friday, September 12, and announced £142 million in aid to support Ukraine through the winter and into next year.
