ANNHRI Slams Israeli Attack On Doha
Doha: The Doha-based Arab Network of National Human Rights Institutions (ANNHRI) condemned in the strongest terms the blatant Israeli attack on Doha.
In a statement yesterday, the ANNHRI affirmed that the Israeli attack on the State of Qatar constitutes a terrorist act and a flagrant violation of international law, particularly the rules of international humanitarian law, which prohibit the targeting of civilians and civilian facilities under any circumstances.
It said that this attack represents a clear violation of the 1949 Geneva Conventions and the United Nations Charter, which prohibits the use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of states.
It also constitutes a crime of aggression under the Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and a direct threat to international peace and security, which requires urgent international legal accountability.
The ANNHRI called on the international community, the United Nations system, and the UN Security Council to assume their legal and moral responsibilities in halting these violations, working to end the policy of impunity, and activating international accountability mechanisms against the perpetrators of these crimes, ensuring respect for international law and contributing to maintaining international peace and security.
