Mexican Embassy In Kuwait Marks National Day Noting 50Th Anni. Of Ties With The Country

KUWAIT, Sept 11 (KUNA) -- The United Mexican States' (Mexico) Embassy on Thursday published a statement, marking the country's National Day that falls on September 16, noting on the occasion that 50 years have passed since Mexico and the State of Kuwait established diplomatic relations.
In the year 1975, the then President of Mexico Luis Echeverria Alvarez paid a four-day state visit to Kuwait, where his host was the (late) Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah. Another very significant fact for the bilateral relationship constituted the two official visits to Mexico in 2010 by the then Prime Minister of Kuwait, Sheikh Nasser Al-Mohammad Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, that turned out to be fundamental for Kuwait to open its embassy in Mexico, in 2011 and Mexico in Kuwait in 2012. It is also important to remember that in 2016 President Enrique Pena Nieto paid an official visit to Kuwait.
With regard to trade links between the two countries it is important to mention that they have been increasing every year. Currently Mexico exports to Kuwait cars, trucks, auto parts, industrial products, canned foods, soft drinks, avocados, chilies, green tomatillos, strawberries and raspberries.
To mark the fiftieth anniversary of the bilateral relations, the Mexican embassy has proposed to the Kuwaiti authorities the creation of a small fund, with resources from both countries, to drive projects that serve to instrument the more than 25 conventions and agreements between the two countries endemics of the four deserts that exist in Mexico.
The Mexican Ambassador to the State of Kuwait, , as cited by the embassy statement, expressed gratitude to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, His Highness Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, the Crown Prince, His Highness Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the Prime Minister, the Government of Kuwait and all Kuwaiti and Mexican nationals residing in the country.
