DM Shmyhal: In Event Of Any Peace Agreement, There Will Be New Arms Race Between Russia And West

Shmyhal said that in the event of any peace agreement, a new arms race would arise between Russia and the West.

Russia will spend the next“three to four years” preparing for a new war, rearming the country and making significant investments in its defense.

The defense minister also said that in order to stop Russia's renewed invasion of Ukraine and its advance on Europe, a“multi-billion dollar push” in rearming countries would be needed.

“We should not imagine this Armageddon scenario - we should just be prepared,” he said.

Shmyhal also expressed the opinion that if a peace agreement on the war is concluded, Britain and Europe will need to deploy troops in Ukraine.

The head of the Ministry of Defense added that five countries have already declared their readiness to deploy their soldiers on the territory of Ukraine.

According to him, these troops should be stationed in training camps and headquarters in Ukrainian cities so that they can respond immediately.

According to Shmyhal, this would be similar to the approach in NATO's Article 5, where an attack on one country is considered an attack on all.

He also noted that in order to compete with Russia, Ukraine needs to produce 400,000 drones per month.

“This new war is a completely different kind of war,” Shmyhal said.

As reported by Ukrinform, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, said that Russia plans to spend about USD 1.1 trillion on military rearmament to be ready for war with NATO.
