AU Condemns Israeli Attack On Qatar

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) RABAT, Sept 9 (KUNA) -- Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission Mahmoud Ali Youssouf on Tuesday strongly condemned the Israeli attack on the State of Qatar, warning that the incident would further exacerbate tensions and destabilize the already fragile situation in the Middle East.
In a statement, Youssouf said the attack constituted a serious threat to regional peace and security, reiterating the African Union's firm position on the need to uphold the principles of state sovereignty and the protection of civilians in accordance with international law.
He also praised Qatar's prominent role in promoting peace, mediation, and diplomacy at the regional and international levels.
He emphasized the urgent need to revive dialogue and political engagement to reach a just and lasting solution to the ongoing conflict in the region.
Youssouf renewed the African Union's call for maximum restraint and constructive engagement to prevent further escalation and promote stability across the Middle East. (end)
