Washington: The United States affirmed that the airstrike carried out by Israel against Qatar, which targeted a residential compound in Doha housing several members of the Hamas political bureau, was considered an unfortunate incident.

White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said in a press briefing that the Israeli strike on Qatar, a close US ally, does not serve shared objectives and does not advance peace efforts.

She added that President Donald Trump regards Qatar as a strong ally and close friend of the United States and expressed deep regret that such an operation took place on its territory.

Leavitt noted that President Trump remains committed to achieving peace in the Middle East with US allies and stressed the importance of preventing a repeat of such attacks, which risk undermining diplomatic efforts.
