The Election Commission of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has released the schedule for in-house polling to fill vacant chairmen seats in five village councils across four districts of the province.

According to Commission spokesperson Suhail Ahmed, the polling will be held on September 11 through an open division system, in which members of the respective village councils will cast their votes.

The vacant seats fall in Mardan, Hangu, Orakzai, and Tank districts. In Mardan, polling will take place for two village councils, Gujar Garhi-III and Takht-II, while in Hangu it will be held for Balia Mena, in Orakzai for Ghazgar, and in Tank for Budha village council.

Returning officers have already been appointed for the process. As per the schedule, nomination papers will be received, scrutinized, and, if desired, withdrawn on the same day of polling.

The spokesperson added that a member can only act as a proposer or seconder for one candidate. Under the open division system, each member will write the name of their preferred candidate in the register, sign, affix their thumb impression, and leave the hall. The returning officer will then forward the result to the provincial election commissioner, who will subsequently send it to the Election Commission Secretariat.
