Dr Dat Doan is a Senior Lecturer in Built Environment Engineering at Auckland University of Technology (AUT). His research focuses on sustainable construction, Building Information Modelling (BIM), circular economy adoption, and digital innovation in the built environment. He has published extensively in leading international journals, with highly cited work such as A critical comparison of green building rating systems, which has influenced both policy and industry practice and was selected as one of the Top 50 New Green Buildings articles by the Global Buildings Performance Network (GBPN). His recent projects investigate digital technology integration in circular construction, automation of BIM-based sustainability assessments, and the transition to smart construction technologies. Through this work, he has contributed to shaping international research and practice in sustainable construction.

Dat is Co-Leader of the AUT Huri te Ao Innovative Sustainable Construction Research Centre, where he drives collaborative research on sustainability and advanced construction technologies. His research has attracted competitive funding and supported partnerships with international institutions in Chile, China, Vietnam, and beyond.
