Coalition Of Willing: 26 Countries Pledge Troops To Reassure Ukraine Post-War

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) This was stated by French President Emmanuel Macron at a joint press conference at the Élysée Palace, according to a Ukrinform correspondent.

“Today, we have 26 countries that have committed to deploying troops in Ukraine as a force of assurance, or to be present on land, at sea, or in the air to bring these guarantees to Ukrainian territory,” Macron said.

He added that the purpose of these forces is not to wage war against Russia, but to guarantee peace and“send a clear strategic signal.”

“These forces will be deployed as part of the ceasefire regime, not on the front line, but in geographical areas that are currently being determined,” the French president clarified.

At the same time, he refused to provide details.

“This is our line of defense and Ukraine's line of defense. We are not going to show our plan to Putin's Russia. It is with our chiefs of staff, and they are ready,” Macron assured.

According to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the willingness of 26 countries to provide Ukraine with security guarantees is the first concrete decision in a long time.

“We are preparing documents on guarantees and determining investments in security from each country. As Emmanuel [Macron] said, 26 countries have agreed to provide Ukraine with security guarantees. I think that today, for the first time in a long time, this is the first concrete step,” the Ukrainian president said during a conversation with journalists following the meetings in Paris.

According to Zelensky, the partners understand what the basis for security guarantees should be, and the basic framework is already in place. He stressed that the Ukrainian army is the central element of the guarantees.

“Accordingly, these are the capabilities of our army-weapons, financing, training, and weapons production. We provide all of this. And this must be done in a year, in five years, in 10 years, both in the current conditions of war and to ensure security later, in peacetime,” the President noted.

He noted that one aspect of security guarantees is a strong Europe in terms of technology and industry, so during the meeting of the Coalition of the Willing, the topic of production was discussed.

"We note that European production lines are not yet working at full capacity, but all of this needs to be increased (and it is clear how). The volumes must be greater. The speed must be greater. We also have significant production capacities in Ukraine today that are not being used due to shortages and lack of funds," Zelensky said.

The President added that almost 60% of all weapons currently used by the Defense Forces are produced in Ukraine.

According to him, within the framework of international agreements, Ukraine will receive truly effective security guarantees.

"We are very grateful that America supports and is part of the security guarantees for Ukraine. I am not yet ready to say in what format. Although, again, we already understand the elements. This is an important conclusion from our meeting, in my opinion. Many things are becoming clear. And indeed, it is very encouraging that our military and our population in Ukraine will have real, effective security guarantees," Zelensky said.

In addition, according to him, a so-called backstop from the US is expected, which will provide an additional level of security and support for Ukraine in case of an escalation of the situation.

As reported by Ukrinform, Zelensky said that the participants of the Coalition of the Willing share Ukraine's view that Russia seeks to continue the war, so it is necessary to increase pressure on the Russian Federation through sanctions. In particular, the European Union is working on the 19th package, and Japan is also preparing sanctions on its part.
