KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan outclassed hosts the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by 38 runs in the third match of the tri-nation series at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Opting to field first after winning the toss on Monday, the UAE bowlers were put under pressure as Sediqullah Atal and Ibrahim Zadran struck fluent half-centuries to set up a strong total.

Afghanistan posted 187 for 5 in their allotted overs, setting a target of 188.

Zadran top-scored with a stylish 63 off 40 deliveries, including three fours and four sixes, while Atal compiled 54 off 40 with four boundaries and three maximums.

Azmatullah Omarzai chipped in with 20 off 12 balls before Karim Janat provided late fireworks, smashing 23 from just 10 deliveries.

In reply, UAE were restricted to 150 for 8 despite spirited efforts from captain Muhammad Waseem and wicketkeeper-batter Rahul Chopra.

Waseem hammered 67 off 37, striking four fours and six sixes, while Chopra remained unbeaten on 52 off 35, hitting three fours and three sixes.

However, the rest of the batting line-up faltered, with only Ethan D'Souza (12) reaching double figures.

Afghanistan's bowlers kept the pressure on, led by veteran leg-spinner Rashid Khan and Sharafuddin Ashraf, who claimed three wickets apiece. Mohammad Nabi and Fazalhaq Farooqi also took a wicket each.

Rashid Khan's 3 for 21 not only sealed the victory but also secured his place in history as the leading wicket-taker in men's T20 internationals. He now has 165 scalps, surpassing New Zealand fast bowler Tim Southee's record of 164.

Afghanistan will take on Pakistan in their third match of the series today (Tuesday) at the same venue.
