Afghanistan Quake Toll Rises: 1,124 Dead, 3,251 Hurt
KABUL (Pajhwok): The death toll from the devastating earthquake in eastern Afghanistan has risen to 1,124, with 3,251 people injured and more than 8,000 houses destroyed, the Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS) said on Tuesday.
In a statement released around 1:00 p.m. today, the ARCS confirmed the updated figures, adding that rescue operations are still underway in the affected areas.
The earthquake, which struck just before midnight on Sunday, was recorded at magnitude 6 on the Richter scale by the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
