Media reports Kamala Harris’ security protection revoked

(MENAFN) Former Vice President Kamala Harris will no longer receive Secret Service protection after U.S. President Donald Trump rescinded the extended security detail, according to multiple media reports citing a formal letter.

By law, former vice presidents are entitled to Secret Service protection for six months after leaving office. That period ended for Harris on July 21, 2025. However, then-President Joe Biden had quietly extended her protection for an additional year before leaving office, sources told ABC News.

The letter, dated Thursday and addressed to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, reportedly states that all extra security measures granted through executive order are to end on September 1, 2025, for “Former Vice President Kamala D. Harris.”

With this decision, Harris will no longer receive full-time security coverage, and the Secret Service will stop monitoring her online communications and potential threats.

This move follows similar actions taken in March, when the Trump administration also ended extended Secret Service protection for President Biden’s adult children and revoked security clearances for several key figures from the previous administration, including Secretary of State Antony Blinken and National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan.

The timing of Harris’ security withdrawal is notable, coming just weeks before she begins a 15-city promotional tour for her upcoming memoir, 107 Days, which recounts her short-lived 2024 presidential campaign and is set for release on September 23.
