Russian oil supply to EU reinstated following Ukrainian assaults

(MENAFN) Russian oil shipments to Hungary and Slovakia via the Druzhba pipeline have resumed following a temporary disruption caused by Ukrainian missile and drone strikes, officials in both countries confirmed. The key pipeline, spanning over 4,000 kilometers, has been hit multiple times in recent weeks, drawing strong criticism from Budapest and Bratislava. Moscow labeled the strikes as acts of “terrorism.”

Slovak Economy Minister Denisa Sakova announced the restoration of service on Wednesday, expressing hope that the system would remain stable and free from further attacks. Hungarian energy company MOL, which runs refineries in both nations, also confirmed the resumption of oil deliveries, though it provided no specifics on volume or timing.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto previously noted that the latest attack caused “severe damage,” but said Moscow had informed him that a temporary fix allowed for deliveries to restart in test mode at reduced capacity.

Both Hungary and Slovakia, known for their critical stance on EU support for Ukraine, condemned the attacks, calling them a threat to their energy security. Szijjarto slammed some Hungarian politicians and media for defending the strikes, while accusing the European Commission of ignoring the risk.

Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar added that the strikes harmed not only Slovakia but also Ukraine, which relies on Slovak diesel supplies.

According to a letter cited by Hungarian officials, U.S. President Donald Trump also expressed anger over the attacks.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called the strikes “terrorist acts,” insisting that all assaults on civilian infrastructure—especially energy facilities—should be universally condemned.
