Historic Christian Cemetery In Tank Damaged By Floods Community Demands Restoration
The only Christian cemetery in Tank district, which dates back to pre-Partition times, has suffered severe damage due to recent rains and flash floods. The boundary wall has collapsed, and several graves have also been affected.
According to local resident Jameel Masih, the historic cemetery houses graves of British-era soldiers, with belt numbers and inscription markings still visible. He added that the site also includes the graves of a foreign couple, but over time, the absence of a protective wall has led to further degradation, with some marble nameplates broken by individuals.
Jameel Masih has urged the district administration and relevant authorities to take immediate notice and implement measures to prevent further damage to the cemetery.

Mauz Arain, a social activist from Tank, stated,“Just as the district government repaired the boundary wall of the Muslim cemetery in Langar Bai, the Christian community's cemetery should also receive attention, and its collapsed walls should be rebuilt.”
Meanwhile, Dera Division Commissioner Zafar Islam Khattak told the media that all losses in the division will be fully addressed.“Our survey teams are assessing damage in various areas. The affected cemetery and other public properties will be reconstructed on a priority basis,” he assured.
The Christian community has appealed to the district government to take urgent steps for the restoration of this historic cemetery to preserve their religious and cultural identity.
