Qatar Compete In Fujairah World Chess Championship

Doha, Qatar: The Qatari national chess team is participating in the inaugural Fujairah World Chess Championship, currently underway and running until September 2 in Abu Dhabi. The tournament has drawn nearly 600 players from 75 countries, competing across three main categories.

The championship includes the Superstar category for players rated 2560 and above, featuring 44 top-ranked international players; the Masters Championship for players above 2200, with around 330 participants; and the Open Championship for players below 2200. A total prize pool of $125,000 will be awarded to top performers.

Representing Qatar are Grandmaster Hussein Aziz, along with Khaled Al-Jumaat, Hamad Al-Kuwari, Turki Al-Kuwari, Fahad Al-Mansouri, Ibrahim Al-Janahi, Saif Ahmed, Layan Al-Qassabi, and Rawda Al-Qassabi.

Qatari international referee Sarah Al Mohannadi is also attending the International Fair Play Arbitration Course, held alongside the tournament from August 28–31.

Qatar Chess Association President Mohammed Al Mudahka expressed optimism about the team's performance, noting the tournament's high level, with many competitors ranked among the world's top 100. He praised the team's preparation and highlighted the event's strong international presence and competitive quality.

Al Mudahka also commended the Fujairah Chess Club for its outstanding organization and confirmed that the matches are being streamed live on the FIDE website and other major platforms. He extended his thanks to Dr. Abdullah Al Barakat, Chairman of the Fujairah Chess Club, for the successful hosting of the event.
