Sora Lee
Sora Lee is a lecturer in aging at the La Trobe University. Before she came to ANU to do her PhD thesis on health equity among older population, she worked at Ewha Womans University, Korea Development Institute School of Public Policy & Management.
At La Trobe, she is leading a multi-year research project on Hidden Workers in Ageing Population using intersectionality. Hidden workers are not currently employed but eager or willing to work. Many in this age group have left their jobs over the past decade due to“involuntary reasons,” such as health issues, care-giving responsibilities, or job termination.
The intersectional experiences of ageing population reflect the cumulative ways that discrimination and disadvantage are experienced based on intersecting characteristics such as age, gender, sexual orientation, Indigenous status, long-term health conditions and ethnicity. The project will examine how a person's social identities may interact with employment and health in their later working lives.
Death literacy index is also her research topic of interest. Community death literacy is deeply connected with social networks and social capital in end of life care. Interventions to enhance community death literacy is an effective way to practice public health approach to palliative care.
