Mahinda Claims Arresting Ranil Was An Act Of Revenge

(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa claims the arrest of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe was an act of revenge.

Speaking to reporters after visiting Wickremesinghe at the prison hospital, Rajapaksa said that arresting a former Executive President is not a good sign.

He also said that such arrests are part of Sri Lankan politics.

Mahinda Rajapaksa said that Wickremesinghe did not seem concerned about his arrest and was in good spirits.

Wickremesinghe was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on Friday over allegations he misused Government funds to travel to London to attend a private function.

The former President appeared before the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and was questioned over the allegations before he was arrested.

Wickremesinghe was accused of misusing Government funds to travel to London to attend a graduation ceremony of his wife, Professor Maithree Wickremesinghe in 2023 when he was President.
