HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): Information and Culture Department officials in western Herat province celebrated the 105^th anniversary of the founding of“Ittefaq-e-Islam” newspaper, praising it for playing an important role in raising public awareness in various fields.

“Ittefaq-e-Islam” is the first government-run newspaper in the province, with a history of 105 years. According to available information, this newspaper was first published in 1299 solar year (1920), under the management of Abdullah Qane Heravi, and with lithographic printing,

The bulk of the content of this newspaper, which was published in handwritten form and lithographed in its early years, included domestic and foreign news, political, cultural, and literary articles, and the activities of the governments of the time.

In the anniversary ceremony, Information and Culture Director Maulvi Ahmadullah Muttaqi explained this newspaper published editorial, news, reports, analyses for different segments of the population and sent to government institutions and libraries.

His department has always supported local media to ensure the growth and sustainability of media outlets by improving the quality of content and expanding people's access to reliable information, Muttaqi said.

Meanwhile, Shamil Ahmad Mashal, head of the Media Support and Supervision Committee, welcomed the 105th anniversary of the founding of the newspaper and called it a symbol of media and cultural sustainability.

According to him, this media outlet has gained the trust of the people and national institutions by publishing credible and analytical content, and is a successful example of local media that has been able to continue its activities for more than a century.

Herat is home to the largest number of print, audio, and video media outlets in the country after Kabul.
