GCC Chief Openly Deplores Attack On Aid Convoy In Sudan

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) RIYADH, Aug 23 (KUNA) -- Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jasem Al-Budaiwi on Saturday condemned in the strongest terms a recent attack on a humanitarian aid convoy near Mellit in Sudan's North Darfur.
In a press statement, Al-Budaiwi underlined that it is essential to spare civilians and humanitarian teams the woes of the conflict and to demonstrate strict abidance by international and humanitarian laws that prohibit the targeting of relief aid and supplies.
The GCC chief called for respecting humanitarian and relief action and ensuring the unrestricted and safe delivery of humanitarian access to the needy.
He deplored the targeting of humanitarian convoys as a blatant breach of all international laws and norms and undermining efforts to achieve security and stability in Darfur and even across Sudan. (end)
