Iraqi, Kurdish Presidencies Lament Violence In Al-Sulaimaniya

BAGHDAD, Aug 22 (KUNA) -- The Presidency of the Republic of Iraq and the Presidency of the Kurdistan Region on Friday deplored the armed clashes that happened in Al-Sulaimaniya Governorate Thursday night and Friday dawn time.
The Iraqi Presidency said in a statement that it followed up with concern on the regretful incidents in Al-Sulaimaniya where a number of the security apparatuses' members were killed and a number of others were wounded.
It affirmed necessity to practice self-restraint and adhere to legal and judicial measures according to the constitution, and staying clear of violence.
Meanwhile, the Iraqi News Agency broadcast a statement by Iraq Kurdistan Region, calling for adherence to law and safeguarding the residents of the province. It also urged for resolving disputes through the laws and with peaceful means.
Seven gunmen died and 30 others received injuries in armed clashes in Al-Sulaimaniya Governorate, medical sources reported earlier on Friday. The sources said that the violence ended with the detention of chief of the People's Front Party, Sheikh Lahor Jangi Talabani, and a number of associates, explaining that the clashes engaged his followers with the personnel of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.
