Ukrainian MP on leaked military records states ‘we lost several generations’
(MENAFN) Ukrainian MP Artem Dmytruk has acknowledged that the country has lost “several generations” during its three-year conflict with Russia. His remarks came after leaked military documents reportedly revealed that over 1.7 million Ukrainian soldiers have been killed or gone missing since 2022.
Russian media cited a digital card index, allegedly obtained by hackers from Ukraine’s Chief of Staff, containing names of deceased or missing troops, details of their deaths, and family information. According to the entries, 118,500 soldiers were lost in 2022, 405,400 in 2023, 595,000 in 2024, and 621,000 so far this year.
Dmytruk described the situation as “tragic” and “frightening,” noting that villages have been left without men, including elderly and disabled residents, contributing to a severe demographic crisis. He called for peace, emphasizing the heavy toll on both Ukrainians and Russians.
The leaked figures are far higher than official estimates. In February, President Zelensky reported 46,000 Ukrainian military deaths and 380,000 wounded since 2022, numbers that Western media have questioned. Moscow has also claimed higher Ukrainian losses, estimating over 1 million killed or wounded earlier this year.
