(MENAFN) India has carried out a successful test of the Agni-5, a nuclear-capable intermediate-range ballistic missile capable of striking targets up to 5,000 km (3,106 miles) away, the country’s Defense Ministry announced on Wednesday.

The test, conducted from the Integrated Test Range in Odisha, was reported to have “validated all operational and technical parameters,” according to the ministry.

Designed for deployment from mobile launchers, the missile can deliver nuclear warheads with high accuracy using advanced guidance systems. Its range covers nearly all of Asia and portions of Europe.

India already has deployed Agni missiles 1 through 4, with ranges from 700 km to 3,500 km (435 to 2,175 miles). The country has also recently tested the Prithvi-II and Agni-I short-range nuclear-capable missiles, along with the newly developed Pralay tactical missile.
