PM Shehbaz, Field Marshal Munir Lead Relief Efforts In KP Victims Receive Aid And Compensation Checks
On August 20, 2025, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, accompanied by Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, visited the flood-ravaged regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Buner, Swat, Shangla, and Swabi, to oversee ongoing relief operations and distribute checks to the victims.
The visit was part of the government's concerted effort to address the devastation caused by the recent catastrophic floods, which have claimed over 377 lives , with Buner being the worst affected, accounting for more than 220 deaths.
During the visit, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with local officials and flood victims, offering his condolences and reassuring them of the government's unwavering support.

He emphasized that the federal government, in collaboration with the military, would spare no resources in aiding the recovery and rehabilitation of the affected families.
“We will ensure that every form of aid reaches those who are suffering,” Sharif stated, further pledging to tackle the root causes of the devastation, such as illegal land grabs, timber mafia activities, and unregulated mining in the region.

Field Marshal Asim Munir visited relief teams across various districts, commending their tireless efforts.“The safety and welfare of our citizens is paramount,” he said, reaffirming that the military's top priority remains the flood victims. He emphasized that rescue operations should continue without any delay.
Ongoing Efforts by NDMA and Health Ministry:
In the wake of the disaster, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has continued to provide essential supplies to the affected areas, dispatching relief goods such as tents, blankets, and medicines to Bajaur and Manshera. The Health Ministry, meanwhile, has set up 32 medical camps, treating over 6,900 patients. Health officials are monitoring the rise in cases of waterborne diseases and have sent additional medical teams to handle the growing health crisis.

With more rainfall expected in the coming days, authorities are on high alert, preparing for potential further flooding and ensuring resources are available to continue the relief and recovery operations.
As the Prime Minister and Army Chief concluded their visit, both leaders participated in prayers for the victims, reaffirming the government's dedication to providing continuous support and relief in the aftermath of one of the worst floods the region has seen in years.
