Jane Kershaw
Jane Kershaw is the first Gad Rausing Associate Professor of Viking Age Archaeology at the University of Oxford's School of Archaeology – the university's first academic post to focus exclusively on the Viking age.
Dr Kershaw is currently leading the five-year project, Silver and the Origins of the Viking Age (c. 750-1050 AD), which addresses one of the enduring questions of medieval studies through an interdisciplinary (archaeological, archaeometric and numismatic) study of silver from early Viking-age Scandinavia. It aims to provide the first large-scale, systematic and empirically-based answers to the outstanding questions of where, when and why the Viking age began.
