Kabul: Seventy-eight passengers, most of them migrants returning from Iran, were killed in a collision between a passenger bus, a truck, and a motorcycle in western Afghanistan.
In a statement, the provincial authorities in Herat reported that a passenger bus heading to Kabul collided with a motorcycle and then a fuel-laden truck in the Guzara area, causing a massive explosion that led to the death of 78 passengers, noting that 17 children were among the victims.
In a related development, chief physician at the military hospital Mohammed Janan Muqadas, explained that the victims' identities were unidentifiable due to the severity of burns
Police stated that the accident was caused by excessive speed and negligence on the part of the bus driver, who lost control of his vehicle before it veered off the main road and violently collided first with a motorcycle and then with a truck.
This accident is considered one of the most violent traffic accidents in Afghanistan in recent years.
