Energy minister installs Jordan’s first industrial solar heating project
(MENAFN) Jordan’s Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Saleh Kharabsheh, inaugurated the Kingdom’s first industrial solar heating facility on Monday at Al Muwaqqar Industrial City. The plant, operated by Rotografia Jordan–Walid Kilani and Partners, represents a milestone in adopting renewable energy in the industrial sector.
Kharabsheh emphasized that such projects reduce operational costs, boost the competitiveness of Jordanian products globally, attract investment, and create jobs in solar-powered industrial heating—a pioneering area for Jordan and the Arab region. The ministry supports these initiatives through integration with the renewable energy grid, tax exemptions for renewable energy equipment, reduced reliance on diesel and gas, and compliance with environmental standards.
Preliminary studies indicate solar-based industrial heating can deliver energy savings of 40–90% annually, with payback periods of three to five years and long-term cost reductions for up to 25 years. Power Source Jordan for Renewable Energy Systems L.L.C., founded in 2014, is implementing the project using advanced technologies, including concentrated solar power (CSP) and photovoltaic systems, offering efficient solutions for industrial steam, oil, and air heating. CSP systems, in particular, can achieve similar output as PV systems in nearly half the space, with expected annual returns of 20–33% depending on fuel prices.
