(MENAFN) North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has voiced “full support” for Russia just days before the anticipated meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump in Alaska, according to reports.

Sources indicate that Putin and Kim held discussions on Tuesday, where they celebrated the strengthening of cooperation under the Treaty on Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and committed to advancing their bilateral relations.

Following the signing of this treaty in Pyongyang in June 2024, North Korea dispatched thousands of troops to assist Russia in its conflict with Ukraine. The agreement stipulates that both nations will provide military assistance if either is attacked by a third party.

Kim reiterated his nation’s loyalty to the Pyongyang-Moscow pact, declaring that North Korea “will fully support all measures to be taken by the Russian leadership in the future.”

Putin, in turn, expressed gratitude for Pyongyang’s backing, noting its importance as Russia claims to be pushing Ukrainian forces out of its Kursk border region after an incursion in August last year.

According to official statements, Putin also informed Kim about his upcoming meeting with Trump. Scheduled for Friday, the summit will focus on potential solutions to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, now approaching its three-and-a-half-year mark. This will mark the first in-person meeting between a sitting Russian and US president since Putin’s encounter with then-President Joe Biden in Geneva in June 2021.
