UN Conference Focuses on Partnerships

(MENAFN) The third installment of the UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC) commenced in the Awaza National Tourist Zone in Turkmenistan.

This year’s gathering, held under the slogan "Driving Progress Through Partnerships," is scheduled to run through August 8.

It marks the first such assembly since the previous one hosted in Vienna, Austria, back in 2014.

The formal launch of the summit was announced by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

He revealed that Turkmenistan’s head of state, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, would preside over the gathering.

In his address, Berdimuhamedov elaborated on the purpose and scope of the conference, emphasizing Turkmenistan’s strategic approaches, initiatives, and contributions aimed at fostering international collaboration.

The event features a broad array of discussion formats, including legislative, youth-centered, and civil society panels, as well as high-level roundtables.

A wide range of dignitaries, policymakers, and subject-matter specialists are anticipated to participate.

Representing Türkiye at the conference will be Abdulkadir Uraloglu, the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure.

As noted by the UN, LLDC nations grapple with significant hurdles related to trade, infrastructure, and overall growth, primarily due to their lack of access to maritime routes.

This dependency on neighboring transit countries results in elevated transport expenses and shipment delays.

This third edition offers an opportunity to cultivate impactful collaborations aimed at unleashing the untapped capacities of landlocked developing nations.
