Germany states Israel responsible for ensuring humanitarian assistance reaches Gaza

(MENAFN) The German government reiterated on Saturday that Israel bears the responsibility for guaranteeing the delivery of full-scale humanitarian assistance to Gaza, in coordination with the UN and other aid groups.

Government spokesperson Stefan Kornelius said Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul had updated the Federal Security Cabinet via phone after his recent trip to Israel and the occupied West Bank.

Kornelius noted that while there has been “some initial, limited progress” in providing aid to Gaza’s population, it remains “clearly inadequate to address the current emergency.”

“Israel must continue to ensure comprehensive humanitarian access to Gaza, with the support of the UN and relevant humanitarian organizations,” he stated.

Berlin also voiced concern over reports that significant amounts of aid have been seized by Hamas and other criminal factions in Gaza.

During his visit, Wadephul held meetings with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Foreign Minister Gideon Saar, and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. He also toured al-Taybeh near Ramallah and spoke with representatives of humanitarian agencies working in the area.
