EU Calls On China To Urge Russia To End War In Ukraine

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) This was stated by European Council President António Costa in his opening remarks at the EU-China summit on July 24, according to a Ukrinform correspondent citing the EU Council press service .

“As a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, we call on China to use its influence on Russia to respect the UN Charter and to bring an end to its war of aggression against Ukraine,” Costa said.

He emphasized the need to uphold the fundamental values enshrined in the UN Charter, including sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the respect for internationally recognized borders.

Costa noted that the world is going through a period of global uncertainty marked by economic instability, geopolitical tensions, and worldwide challenges for humanity.

Recognizing that the EU and China are among the world's most influential actors with powerful economies, he stressed their shared responsibility to uphold a rules-based international order and to tackle global challenges.

“We have different political and economic systems. We do not always see eye to eye. Yet, we have a shared interest in pursuing constructive and stable relations, anchored in the respect for the rules-based international order, balanced engagement and reciprocity,” said Costa.
