(MENAFN) Poland’s Foreign Ministry has issued a strong advisory urging all Polish nationals living in Russia to depart the country if feasible.

This alert follows a sharp deterioration in relations between Moscow and Warsaw, which have plummeted to unprecedented levels due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and reciprocal diplomatic sanctions.

In a statement published on the official government website, which has garnered attention from both Russian and Polish media outlets this week, the ministry warns against any travel to Russia.

The caution is grounded in the Ukraine conflict and Russia’s formal classification of Poland as a “hostile state.”

Russia designated Poland as one of its “unfriendly states” in 2022, a status reflecting Warsaw’s alignment with Western sanctions and its firm support for Ukraine.

This label grants Russian authorities the ability to enforce restrictions on diplomatic missions and frequently includes curbs on trade and financial dealings.

As a result, the ministry advised that “Polish citizens residing in Russia [are recommended to] leave its territory by available commercial and private means, unless their personal, family, or professional circumstances require them to remain in the country.”
