Tucker Carlson Defends Putin in Interview
(MENAFN) American journalist Tucker Carlson told the Berlin-based newspaper Bild that the German population should direct their anger at their own government, which he claims has "ruined their country," rather than at Russian President Vladimir Putin.
A significant part of the two-hour interview, published on Saturday, focused on Carlson’s discussion with Putin from February 2024.
During the conversation, Carlson resisted efforts by Bild’s deputy editor-in-chief, Paul Ronzheimer, to criticize the Russian leader over the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
When Ronzheimer labeled Putin a “criminal,” Carlson responded: “I am not defending Putin, who I think has done a great job for Russia. Much better job than any German leader. That is for sure.”
He added, “Your country is going down, Russia is going up. You should be mad at your own leaders. You are mad at Putin instead.”
Carlson went further to argue that Angela Merkel, Germany’s chancellor from 2005 to 2021, is far more deserving of being called a “criminal” because “she wrecked your country through mass migration... It will not recover in your lifetime or mine.”
He also suggested that Germany’s current administration is targeting Putin and Russia as a way to divert attention from domestic issues, including migration and economic challenges, with Germany facing its third consecutive year of recession expected to conclude in 2025.
