Fire in Iraqi shopping center claim lives of sixty civilians


(MENAFN) A devastating fire swept through a shopping center in eastern Iraq on Thursday, leaving at least 61 people dead, according to the Interior Ministry. The incident occurred in the city of Kut, located in Wasit governorate, southeast of Baghdad.

Authorities confirmed that more than 45 individuals were pulled from the flames, though many others sustained injuries. As reported by a medical source via official channels, the number of fatalities reached 63, with an additional 40 people injured.

In response to the tragedy, local officials have begun legal action against the shopping center’s owner. An investigation committee has also been formed to determine what caused the fire, according to reports.
