UN Representative Says Gaza Faces "Daily Life-or-Death"
(MENAFN) During an emergency meeting at the United Nations Security Council focused on the crisis in Gaza, Palestinian representative Majed Bamya delivered a stark warning about the harrowing conditions endured by civilians in the enclave.
He compared the daily reality of Palestinians to a game of “Russian roulette with a bullet in almost every chamber,” underlining the constant threat to life they face.
Bamya pointed out that more than 2 million people, half of whom are children, have been living in uncertainty for over 650 days.
Each morning, they wake unsure if they will survive the day, and each night they go to sleep not knowing if they will live to see the next.
The humanitarian situation, he said, has reached unbearable levels. “Every single day has its share of tragedies,” Bamya remarked, voicing concern that the international community is beginning to accept the unacceptable as normal.
He described the conditions in Gaza as offering no escape, saying, “In Gaza, all paths lead to death.” According to Bamya, Palestinians are being pushed by Israeli policies to make impossible choices between dying or being forcibly displaced.
The envoy claimed that Israel’s broader aim has been to compel Palestinians to abandon Gaza from the outset.
He accused Israel of shifting the blame onto the Palestinian population, suggesting that Israel wants to say that Palestinians “chose to leave, we chose to be occupied, we chose to be oppressed. It’s always our fault.”
Bamya concluded by insisting on the immediate and unrestricted delivery of humanitarian assistance throughout Gaza.
He emphasized that this need is "non-negotiable" and should not be entangled in political disagreements, asserting that aid must be provided "at scale…across all of Gaza."
The comments were reported by international outlets following the Security Council session.
