(MENAFN) Israeli fighter jets conducted aerial raids on Tuesday in the Baalbek region of eastern Lebanon, marking another breach of the ongoing ceasefire.

The bombardments targeted the outskirts of Shmustar town and the Wadi Umm Ali area, according to an official state-run news outlet.

Details regarding potential injuries or property destruction had not been released at the time of reporting.

The Israeli military stated that the airstrikes were directed at alleged Hezbollah locations in the region.

However, there was no immediate response from Hezbollah regarding these accusations.

Tensions between Israel and Hezbollah have been steadily intensifying, culminating in open warfare in September of last year.

Although a truce was brokered in November, Israeli operations have continued almost daily across southern Lebanon, with officials justifying the actions as measures against Hezbollah-related activities.

Since the ceasefire took effect, Lebanese officials have documented close to 3,000 breaches by Israeli forces.

These incidents include the deaths of at least 236 individuals and injuries sustained by over 540 others.

According to the terms of the agreement, Israel was mandated to withdraw completely from southern Lebanese territory by January 26.

However, the deadline was later pushed to February 18 following Tel Aviv's refusal to meet the original timeline.
